The small one was perfect for my 3day/2night backpacking trip in the Olympic National Park. The Park will loan you canisters, but they are so large and bigger than I needed. This fit the bill perfectly. And yes, the rangers were checking permits and your bear canisters in the back country.
Was light and held more than enough of food for two people for two full days. It’s bit tough to open, but I guess that’s exactly the point to keep bears out!
Used once so far, and I wasn't eaten by a bear. FIVE STARS!
I usually backpack alone, and a rented bear canister took up almost all the room in my 55L pack that wasn't tent or sleeping bag. I wanted something that would still give me some packing flexibility in bear country, so I picked up a Bare Boxer. I've since suggested it to several people on Reddit who are in similar situations as I was. It's nice to have a product with the same performance as the bigger models, but which won't take up most of your pack space.
